This Week at Alice Creek Flowers

Hooray! The temperatures are finally starting to cool down, and it is a wonderful time to work outside. You almost forget the miserable, hot and sticky days of August (almost..).

I thought I should send out an update of what’s been going on at Alice Creek Flowers. Where should I start??? Here goes..

Our fall subscription deliveries are in full swing, this friday marks week three! I still have openings for mid-week bouquet subscriptions to pick-up at our farm as well. If you’d like to order one for yourself or as a gift, click the button below to sign-up.

The next four week deliveries will start on October 17th an sign-ups for those are coming soon!

In the Gardens..

We’ve had a little trouble with insects lately. Armyworms destroyed about 100 feet of sunflowers. I think I have them under control for now.

A jar full of army worms
I gathered a lot of army worms from our sunflower crop to feed to the chickens.

The peach dahlias, Natalie G, are starting to bloom again! Their beds were full of weeds, it was depressing until Issac and I pulled all the grass, alligator weed, nutsedge and chamber bitter and piled it all into many mountains of weeds. We had to get a tractor to haul it all to a burn pile.

Natalie G, my peach dahlias, are back in bloom.

The pink dahlias, Sweet Fabienne have been blooming strong since May 1st and they are starting to look even better with the cooler weather! You can find them in most of my mixed bouquets and at Whitehouse Flower Shop, Moss, and Primrose Flower shops.

I’ve been bringing flowers up to Club Pilates in the cumberland Mall on Wednesdays. I usually have a “self-service” table set up. It turns out that many people who do pilates also love flowers. Who knew? 😉

One Cool Thing

I heard then saw two pileated woodpeckers interacting with each other. I was out in one of the gardens and heard what sounded a little bit like guinea pigs. I looked over to a stand of pine trees and saw two huge woodpeckers flying from trunk to trunk. Here is a video of Pileated Woodpecker Sounds that I found on Youtube. You might recognize a few of their calls. What I heard the other day was sound #3 from the video. It was so cool!

So..what do you think? Should I keep up weekly updates from our gardens? There really is a lot to share from our gorgeous spot here in east Texas. Leave a comment with your thoughts!

Thank you so much for following along!
