So you’ve brought home some gorgeous cut flowers for your kitchen table, bathroom, office or all of the above. They bring so much color and style to a room, not to mention fragrance and freshness. Would you like to know some tips for getting the most life out of your fresh flowers? I thought you might 🙂
Use Fresh Water. Keep your vase full with clean water, and change the water every few days. It’s the bacteria in dirty water that can clog the flower stems, slowing the flow of water to your beautiful blooms.
Keep Leaves Out of the water. Cut away any leaves that would be inside the vase. Leaves sitting in water can cause bacterial growth, shortening the vase life of cut flowers.
Re-Cut the Stems. Trim the ends of the stems once a week. Sometimes the ends of the stems will get clogged up, slowing the flow of water. Giving the stems a fresh snip will help keep the the water flowing to the petals.
Mist the Petals. Gently mist flowers with a water bottle. Cut flowers can also absorb water through their petals and leaves, and this helps to keep them looking fresh and bright.
Keep Them Out of Direct Sunlight. Put your beautiful bundle somewhere out of direct sunlight. This helps them last longer.
I hope you can enjoy each flower bouquet for as long as possible. All flowers bought from us at Alice Creek Flowers can be composted and fed to your gardens when you’re finished with them. Thank you so much for appreciating the natural beauty that flowers bring to us!
