Overgrown Garden Tour

Would you like to see my rambling and weedy gardens? They are worth a look, despite the bindweed, tall clover and other weeds. Because, despite the neglect there is color, fragrance, and beauty.

First, let’s start with the roses . The Beverly rose has always been reliable- bright pink and so fragrant. When I cut her properly, the stems are long and perfect for flower arrangements.

A row of Beverly roses. This is probably the least weedy row in my rose garden. I’ve added a lot of leaves to help smother and prevent weeds. The blooms are fading and less abundant in the heat of summer, but they’ll be back for a show in the fall.

Beverly bloom. The fragrance from these roses is really fresh and pleasing. It’s a mix of citrus and floral, and so nice to have in the house as a cut flower.

Next up is Delish. What a doll she is- a vigorous grower with a lot of unique blooms.

Delish rose bloom.

Delish blooms about to be overtaken by bindweed. I apologize to any gardeners who are feeling anxiety by looking at this picture. I know that if I don’t take action THIS WEEKEND to reclaim the roses from the bindweed, I may not have a rose garden next year.

Finally, let’s take a look at Abraham Darby. What can I say about this rose and its petalicous, pinky-apricot flowers? First of all- I am thankful that it’s still blooming despite the giant weeds trying to take over the garden. The shrub itself is a slow grower and still rather small. I planted them at the same time as I did the Delish roses, and Delish are easily twice the size of Abraham Darby. The stems are not as strong as Delish and Beverly, but my goodness, are they beautiful! The picture I have here is just a small version of it’s potential. If this row of Abraham Darby was weeded and property fertilized- the blooms would be large, very round and look like the English garden rose they are meant to be.

Despite all the weeds, I am able to cut some roses to put on my kitchen table. This arrangement has Delish and Abraham Darby roses with mints, yarrow and cypress grass.

Well.. I think that might be enough for now. There are a lot of over-grown gardens for you to see.. but for now, let’s leave it at this weedy rosy tour.

Until next time..

Beautiful! I have a rose bed with three plants that I love so much I’m thinking about expanding. Your blooms are so full and lush looking!
